Bernard M. Strass
Born in Michigan, Bernard came to Arizona in 1959 with his parents and sister. He has seen Arizona grow from an agricultural and mining state to its current status as a leader in growth and opportunity. An Arizona State University graduate in secondary education and history, he was first a teacher, before becoming an attorney. In the years since, his clients have often commented that he didn’t seem like a lawyer and he always responded, “I’m just a teacher trapped in a lawyer’s body.” A diligent worker, he has fought for his clients regardless of personal sacrifice, just like a teacher does for his students.
Bernard attended the Creighton University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1988. He also has a Master of Arts in school administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix. A licensed attorney for 35 years, Bernard is admitted to practice law by the Arizona Supreme Court, the US District Court for the District of Arizona, the US Tax Court, the Nebraska Supreme Court, and the US District Court for the District of Nebraska.
Background, Experience, and Personal Interests
After law school and practicing in Omaha, Nebraska for two years, Bernard returned to Phoenix to open a practice of his own. Through a network of family, friends, business associates and a lot of hard work, he built a civil litigation practice representing national and international corporations, medium-sized state and regional businesses, and small businesses in the Phoenix area.
Reviewing and writing contracts, protecting his clients’ rights through litigation, establishing new companies, and taking failed ones through bankruptcy, Bernard has worked in all aspects of business. He also owned and operated the National Defensive Driving Academy, becoming a go-to resource for hands-on teen driving training in the Phoenix area.
Bernard has now shifted his focus to estate planning, where he puts forth the same effort to assist his clients as he has in his previous endeavors. In his time away from work, Bernard enjoys playing tennis and golf, often with his wife, as well as riding road and mountain bikes. Committed to his community, he is still a dedicated supporter of Lura Turner Homes after being involved with the organization for many years during his service as president of the Phoenix Breakfast Civitan Club. Bernard also served as a Cubmaster in the Cub Scouts for many years when his sons were young.
